Next-level training coming to US – and everywhere, with mobile options
Imagine sitting in a training seminar. You’re watching a film with actors portraying how things can go wrong. In an action sequence, the lead character is hurt badly – maimed or perhaps fatally injured. The room feels heavy. The trainer stops the film. You know a tense discussion is coming.
Then the actor walks into the room to answer questions and talk through various parts of that chain of events.
That will get your attention.
Active Training Team (ATT) has been using a combination of film, immersive live action, and other engaging situation training for companies in the transportation, energy, and construction industries for more than a decade.
Recent serious accidents in the US and abroad have placed a heavy toll on our industry, and there is growing concern about a fall-off in the effectiveness of safety training, as well as an overall concern about safety culture.
The Uptime Wind Energy Podcast team was invited by Dermot Kerrigan, Co-Director of the UK-based Active Training Team, to participate in their Thrive USA training event held recently in Cambridge, Massachusetts.
The training program featured in this podcast is fundamentally different from every other safety training we’ve been involved in. When we were in the training, and for days after, we could feel a change. It has stuck with us. That’s why when we describe it as ‘next level,’ and more impactful and more memorable than any previous training experience, it doesn’t feel like hyperbole.
Behavior: Beyond Basic Training
As the live action plays out in front of participants, and they are drawn into the training as participants in many programs, emotional learning takes place.
As Graeme Cooper, Global VP of Energy Transition with Jacobs, explains, ATT’s immersive training “allows you to explore alternate realities…and allows me to adapt my behavior to yours.”
If you haven’t had a chance to experience ATT’s unique training, this interview is worth 20 minutes of your time.
And if you don’t make it to the end of the show, the best news is at the end: that the Active Training program is coming to a variety of locations, in the US and around the world. Thrive USA, opening in New York this fall, will begin rolling out the program across the United States. ATT also offers mobile options, so it can present at sites throughout the world.
