The Stelato S9 starts at RMB 399,800 ($55,910), has a CLTC range of up to 816 km, and comes with Huawei‘s latest ADS 3.0 driver assistance system.
Stelato, a new brand jointly created by Huawei and Beijing Automotive Group (BAIC Group), has launched its first model, the Stelato S9, to target the premium all-electric sedan market in China.
The Chinese tech giant officially rolled out the Stelato S9 at a new launch event today, with deliveries set to begin on August 7.
The Stelato S9, which is offered in two variants — Max and Ultra — with starting prices of RMB 399,800 ($55,910) and RMB 449,800 respectively, is the flagship sedan under Huawei’s HIMA (Harmony Intelligent Mobility Alliance) business.
A mid-to-large-sized executive sedan, the Stelato S9 measures 5,160 mm in length, 1,987 mm in width and 1,486 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 3,050 mm.
With 3,460 mm of usable space in the cabin, the Stelato S9 is ahead of mainstream luxury sedans, said Richard Yu, chairman of Huawei’s intelligent vehicle solutions business unit, at today’s launch.
The model’s drag coefficient of 0.193 Cd is the lowest of any production luxury sedan in the world, Yu said.
The Stelato S9 comes standard with a 100-kWh capacity 800 V battery pack jointly developed by Huawei and CATL, and has a CLTC range of 816 kilometers for the Max variant and 721 kilometers for the Ultra variant.
The Stelato S9 Max is a single-motor variant, powered by a rear-mounted motor with a peak power of 227 kW, and is capable of accelerating from 0 to 100 kilometers per hour in 5.98 seconds.
Its Ultra variant is driven by a dual motors with an additional front motor with a peak power of 158 kW, capable of accelerating from 0 to 100 km/h in 3.9 seconds.
The Stelato S9 is the first model to feature Huawei’s latest assisted driving software, ADS (Advanced Driving System) 3.0, which is claimed to deliver a more powerful and intelligent driving experience.
BAIC’s EV unit BAIC BluePark said earlier this year that it was working on a new brand called Stelato with Huawei.
The Stelato S9 made its debut on April 25, the first day of the 2024 Beijing auto show.
In addition to Stelato, Huawei has also created the Aito brand with Seres Group, Luxeed with Chery, and Maextro with Anhui Jianghuai Automobile Group (JAC).
There are currently three models under the Aito brand, including the mid-size SUV Aito M5, the mid-to-large-size SUV Aito M7, and the large SUV Aito M9.
Luxeed currently only has the Luxeed S7, a mid-to-large-size sedan, but with a starting price of just RMB 249,800.
The first model under the Maextro brand is expected to be launched in 2025.
The Stelato S9 joins the Aito M9 as the two flagships of Huawei’s HIMA business, and BAIC chairman Zhang Jianyong said at today’s launch that the group will be “all in” on the Stelato S9, pledging strong support for the model.
The launch of the Stelato S9 is expected to further boost sales for Huawei’s HIMA business, which has sold more than 40,000 vehicles in each of the past two months, with 44,090 units sold in July.
