Nio‘s 2,500th battery swap station in China went live today. It has 54 stations in Europe, with Germany and Norway having 18 stations each.
Nio’s (NYSE: NIO) 2,500th battery swap station in China went live today, the company said on Weibo.
The battery swap station is located in Tongliao, Inner Mongolia, and is the first station in the eastern part of the autonomous region, Nio said.
The facility represents Nio’s commitment to its Power Up Counties plan, the electric vehicle (EV) maker said.
Nio unveiled Power Up Counties plan at its Power Up 2024 event on August 20 to advance battery swap and charging network coverage in less-developed areas.
The company aims to have its charging network cover all county-level administrative areas in China by June 30, 2025.
By December 31, 2025, Nio’s battery swap station network will cover more than 2,300 counties in all 27 provincial administrative regions, according to the company.
As of today, 838 of Nio’s 2,500 battery swap stations in China are located near highways.
The company has 2,332 supercharging stations in China, offering 10,628 superchargers. It also has 1,637 destination charging stations offering 12,573 charging piles.
Nio’s charging map has access to more than 1,038,725 third-party charging posts in China, and 79.8 percent of Nio users can find a battery swap station within 3 kilometers of their homes or offices.
The EV maker is also pushing its infrastructure in Europe, where it has 54 battery swap stations to date, Germany and Norway each having 18, according to data compiled by CnEVPost.
Nio announced at its Nio Day 2023 event late last year that it aims to add 1,000 new battery swap stations in 2024.
However, Nio founder, chairman, and CEO William Li hinted in July that the goal could be delayed.
The EV maker ended 2023 with 2,316 battery swap stations in China.
At its Power Up 2024 event on August 20, Nio announced that its energy arm Nio Power will build a new battery swap station manufacturing base in Wuhan, targeting an annual capacity of more than 1,000 battery swap stations.
The company has two other factories assembling battery swap stations in Kunshan, Jiangsu province and Hefei, Anhui province.
